Immersive Technologies has released details on improvements their customers are achieving in Western Australia. Among the results reported are improvements in cycle times, production, time between machine failure and savings in training time.
Few sectors have been under as much pressure to reduce costs and increase efficiencies as iron ore. An increasing number of mines in Western Australia are turning to technology and reporting operational improvements through training initiatives completed in partnership with Immersive Technologies.
Historically, this region has lagged behind other parts of the world in relation to the application of training simulators to drive operational improvement, with use typically focusing on green or inexperienced operators. Changes in priorities and the end of the rapid expansion agenda have led to a shift to show tangible impact on productivity by improving efficiencies and reducing costs.
Through targeted operator training using Immersive Technologies’ PRO3B simulators, the following results have recently been reported:
- 5% truck productivity time improvement
- 8% improvement in tons per hour (Excavator)
- 11% improvement in haul truck mean time between failures
- Truck delay avoidance of 30 minutes per operator in comparison to equivalent in pit training
- 31% reduction in truck related reliability events
- 60% saving in training resource
- 70% reduction in training duration
“Based on our experience in partnering with mining operations around the world, we see tremendous scope for training simulators to further drive efficiencies and sustainable cost improvement in Western Australian Iron Ore operations,” says David Anderson, Executive Vice President – Sales and Support at Immersive Technologies.
Immersive Technologies, counts BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Roy Hill, CITIC Pacific Mining, Thiess and Downer EDI Mining amongst its West Australian Iron Ore customers.
