Sonangol, the state-owned oil company has finally managed to transport petrol and diesel oil to the eastern provinces of the country by rail, as an alternative route to transporting the commodities. The fuel has now successfully reached the Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico provinces in addition to reaching the central provinces of Benguela and Huambo.
The alternative was being pursued after the collapse of a bridge over Cacuilo River, according to a recently released press statement from the company. The collapse is still hampering transportation of fuel through roads even now.
The bridge is located 300 kilometres of Saurimo in Lunda Sul province.
“…substantial amounts of petrol and diesel oil have recently been transported to Luena, activity that Sonangol intends to continue with, even after the repair of the bridge,” read the press note in parts.
The release further assures that consumers in these provinces should not be worried of an eventual breach of fuel stocks as the company will ensure to keep the railway transportation as an alternative, working.
